Dubai emergency staff saves one-month-old baby with tele CPR

The dispatcher walked the father through the steps to save his baby's life.

When the father of a month-old-baby called Dubai Police emergency number saying that his child was gasping for breath, the medical dispatcher knew that it needed immediate medical attention.

Time was crucial, but distance was a major concern.

The emergency staff realised that lack of oxygen could choke the baby to death, before the emergency team reaches the spot.

The urgency of the situation drove Essam Al Faqih, the medical dispatcher stationed at the Dubai Police emergency line, to take matters into his hands.

First, he asked the father to calm down and assured that nothing would happen to his child.

Then he walked the man through steps to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the sinking child.

Al Faqih guided him with the procedure until the baby showed signs of revival.

After this, the Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services (DCAS) dispatched a pink ambulance to take the child to Latifa Hospital.

Taleb Ghalum Taleb, director of the ambulance department, said that the entire staff, including paramedics, are trained to deal with such situations.

Taleb and Khalid Qasim Al Blooshi, head of the emergency dispatch department, honoured Al Faqih with a certificate of appreciation for his prompt thinking that saved the child's life.
